BABICH – NEW ZEALAND WINE SINCE 1916

Located in the Wairu Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand’s leading wine region, the 148 acre Headwaters Vineyard sits at the confluence of the Waihopai and Wairau rivers. It’s where the Babich family grow their range of award winning organic wines, following some of the same methods they’ve been using for over 100 years.

Fully certified as organic, headwaters is one of the largest BioGro certified vineyards in New Zealand, planted on lighter loam soil over underlying gravel.

The Babich Family’s  winemaking philosophy is simple. They seek out superior vineyard sites in the right regions, and plant them with the ideal grape varieties chosen to match the land and the climate. That is the reason why they grow quality grapes at Headwaters, ensuring premium quality wines. The terroir offers unique characteristics, with the fertile soil over gravel offering the best of both worlds. The winds from the Waihopai and Wairau Valleys converge here, and it is warmer and wetter here than other parts of Marlborough.

They conduct intensive canopy management and keep crop levels carefully controlled, following strict viticulture and organic practice to maintain their high standards.
